Spanish Governor's Palace in San Antonio, TX
The Palace has been named a National Historic Landmark. It represents the last visual remnants of the Presidio San Antonio de Bejar. The building was restored in the 1930s.
As you walk in the building, you'll notice the coat of arms of the Spanish King Ferdinand VI, complete with the inscription "año 1749 se acabo." Because of this marking, the Presidio is believed to have been completed in 1749.
Originally, the building was the home and office of the Captain of the Presidio. By 1821, it transformed from a military post to a residence. Since then, it has also functioned as a commercial system, with pawn shops, wholesale produce stores, saloons and clothing stores calling it home. Now, it stands as a historical reminder of the early days of San Antonio. Guests can explore the museum and courtyards of "the most beautiful building in San Antonio."
